  I think this is a very striking approach politically. It is effective precisely because Palin's claim that it is not clear whether or not global warming is caused by people is dangerous. Twenty years ago, this would have been a common, and in certain circles a "acceptable" point of view to have. Now it is not- as I understand it, the science has really firmed up here, and this is no longer a viable position to take. But the danger of it is that it may still "seem" reasonable to certain parts of the country who haven't been "updated" in years on the science surrounding global warming and CO2. I think Hillary's line of approach here is therefore effective- because she makes clear that if you are in denial about the causes of a problem you are not in a good position to fix the problem.
