  I suppose there is an element of self selection in any formalized expression of public opinion, but how do you ensure that the impact of self selection in DD is the same as that with self selected, uninformed voters? Or doesn't that matter?

    we have the attitudinal and demographic responses to the initial surveys for both participants and non-participants. So we usually have the evidence to show that the participants do not differ significantly from all those in the initial sample. There have been few differences.
