Support for increasing the sales tax increased from 37 percent to 51 percent. ·Support for boosting the income tax went up from 27 percent to 45 percent. ·Support for cutting business taxes increased from 40 percent to 67 percent.

these results show that people supported increasing the taxes whose pain they feel and supported decreasing the taxes they can feel only indirectly.

we have the attitudinal and demographic responses to the initial surveys for both participants and non-participants. So we usually have the evidence to show that the participants do not differ significantly from all those in the initial sample. There have been few differences. I suppose there is an element of self selection in any formalized expression of public opinion, but how do you ensure that the impact of self selection in DD is the same as that with self selected, uninformed voters? Or doesn't that matter?

if anyone saw these results on a conventional survey they would think they were from an alternative universe. But after deliberation they make sense, given the problems
